A few weeks ago, I visited Paris, and since then, French has become a recurring theme in my life. It's currently the most evident path towards my immigration to Canada, so I've been dedicating myself daily to learning this new language. The beginning is hard when you read the sentences and grammatical rules and think, "I will never learn this." This is a curious feeling and made me revisit how I felt when I started learning English two years ago. And then this mix of "Will I manage?" combined with the feeling of, “But I became fluent in English in record time, so why not?” led me to some reflections on learning a new language and the possibilities:

Learning a new language is like unlocking a portal to a point-of-no-return universe, an expansion of knowledge and professional empowerment that reflects not only in a feeling of accomplishment but also in personal growth. It's a sensation of looking at the world without seeing limits or borders, like a superpower or a VIP access card to never-before-explored places. Moreover, speaking another language is like having a key to a new culture. It's not just about words and grammar, but also about understanding and appreciating different ways of thinking, expanding our horizons, and helping us better understand and respect cultural differences.

Learning a new language can be a challenge, but as we start to understand and effectively communicate in another language, we feel an increase in confidence and self-esteem. This feeling of accomplishment makes us proud of our achievements and motivates us to face new challenges. Additionally, studies show that learning a new language can improve several cognitive skills, such as memory, attention, and problem-solving abilities, slow down brain aging, and even prevent diseases like dementia.

In my particular journey, learning a new language was and always will be much more than just adding a skill to my resume. It's a journey of self-discovery, horizon expansion, and personal and professional enrichment. Whatever language you choose to learn, the process will certainly be a rewarding experience, and even if sometimes you think it's not possible, not giving up is the key. Immersing yourself head-on in that language is the big X factor and always being able to admire the beauty and connections of that language, and understanding the origins, history, and art behind that language will definitely awaken a unique excitement in your heart. This journey is not about getting a job or about immigrating, it's about falling in love with things that no money in the world can buy.
